Mumbai, June 24 -- Kangna Ranaut, after an abbreviated role in Kites, returns to the screen as a 1970's diva in Once Upon A Time In Mumbai. The actress insists she knows nothing about the cosmetic surgery that she is supposed to have undergone recently."Who says only a woman with a sharply defined jawline, hollow cheeks, fuller lips and a 24-inch waist is beautiful? There's no ideal standard you have to match up to. I may be an unconventional looker, but I know that I'm a beautiful woman who doesn't need cosmetic surgery. It would be insane for me to go under the knife," she argues. To explain her fuller figure, she points out that when she entered the film industry, she was a skinny 17-year-old teenager. "I'm 23 now, and even though I may be a celebrity, like other human beings, I too go through regular hormonal changes that could easily account for these recent changes," she reasons. In Ekta Kapoor's new film, she plays Rehana, a Madhubala-like superstar who is idolised by a gangster, modelled on Haji Mastan. And with him, she enters a whole new world. Ranaut admits to being a fan of Madhubala herself, but points out that she reigned in the '50s and '60s.From the '70s lot, her pick is Parveen Babi, who along with Zeenat Aman, moved away from the conventional stereotype and with her torn jeans, string bikinis and acknowledged live-in relationships, became a cult figure of the decade. "Parveen was such a stunning girl who followed her heart and left her mark. I hope I can do the same," says Ranaut, who played Babi's screen avatar in Woh Lamhe (2006).Growing up in the mountains of Manali, she believed that if she could break the TV set, the beautiful people she saw on screen would step out into her world. Today, she is a part of their world and loving it."I did my bit too," says Ranaut, who admits to having designer dreams herself. "I love fabrics, but right now, I get the time to sketch only at night. By the time I'm 30, I should be able to launch my own line."
