A major 7.3 magnitude aftershock to an earlier earthquake shook the Philippines, the U.S. Geological Survey reported on Friday.The aftershock, which occurred on Saturday morning local time, struck 66 miles (106 km) southwest of Cotabato, Mindanao, at a depth of 361 miles (595 km), the USGS said. It initially said the aftershock had a magnitude of 7.5.The initial quake that preceded the aftershock had a magnitude of 6.9, the USGS said.The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said the aftershock did not generate a destructive tsunami in the region.A quake of over 7.0 magnitude can cause widespread, heavy damage.(For more news on Reuters India, click http://in.reuters.com)
