The CPM's efforts to drive a wedge between the Congress and the Trinamool Congress continued on Thursday. Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, while terming the Trinamool Congress activists conduits of Maoists, exhorted the Congress to join hands with the CPM to fight the Naxalites in the states."The People's Committee Against Police Atrocities (PCPA) is an organisation controlled by Maoists. Their leaders are selected by the Maoists. And the Trinamool Congress has strong links with the PCAPA," said the CM during his reply to a debate on the police budget that was passed on Thursday in the Assembly.Bhattacharjee slammed Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee for seeking suspension of anti-Naxal operations in the state. "We have 35 companies of central forces battling the Maoist. If they leave, Maoists will be able to spread their tentacles throughout the state, which will benefit the Trinamool Congress... I appeal to the Congress to set aside all differences and join us to fight Maoists, if not all through the state, but at least in the three Maoist-affected districts (West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia)," Bhattacharjee told Manas Bhunia, state Congress chief and leader of the Congress Legislature Party, who was the main speaker from the Opposition. The CM also refuted Mamata's allegation levelled on Wednesday at a rally to commemorate Martyr's Day at Esplanade that it was the CPM that was responsible for the recent railway accidents."It is a canard, a blatant, obnoxious lie. We will not let such canards go answered," Bhattacharjee said.
