After Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Maharashtra, Punjab is fast emerging as the next big territory for Bhojpuri songs and films. Bhojpuri films attract the second largest audience and earn good revenue after Hindi films. This was stated by Satish Tripathi, a composer who has given some memorable music to Bhojpuri and Hindi films. He was in the city on Friday to hold auditions for the second season of music reality show Sur Sangram which is telecast on Mahua channel.Tripathi, who is music director for the show, said, "Regional films are posing a big challenge to Bollywood as more than 100 films are produced in a year and no doubt generate good business. Bhojpuri language has been in use in Hindi films and songs and people love to listen it. The folk tunes of Chhat, Videsiya, Urvi, Chaiti, Chaita and Kajri are commonly used in Hindi songs."Urmika Rai, senior executive producer of the programme, said, "This reality show focuses on Bhojpuri songs. We are holding auditions in cities where people from Bihar and UP are in large numbers as we are trying to build up a 'cultural' fight."When asked if the judges found talented singers in the city, Urmika chipped in, "Certainly, the people from Bihar and UP are talented. We selected three contestants from today's audition. The show will go on air on Mahua channel in the first week of August." This is the first time that the channel is organising an audition in Punjab.Music director Sujeet Mishra was one of the judges for the audition which attracted many singers from Punjab and other states in the age group of 17 to 28 years. Dr Charan Kamal Singh, director of the upcoming Ishmeet Singh Music Institute, coordinated the auditions.
